Spring Fling Bling! Fry runs away with his first SF title and a little gold for his efforts

The Thin Air Frolf Club, Rossland, BC - In a one sided affair, Fry shot a 4 under 50 in the first round and never let anyone closer than 3 strokes in the second round to dethrone last year's winner, Peach, with a tidy 7 stroke victory. With a picture perfect day as the the setting and a 45 person field, the tournament could not have gone off smoother. "It was a beautiful day for Frolf and the putts were dropping" said the new #1 ranked RFA player, Kevin "Fry" Johnson, "Peach and Tucker didn't play their best frolf, so I was able to play conservatively in the second round to protect my lead." Fry adds the SF title to his list of Disc Golf accomplishments that include 6 Master's titles and "owner of the most frolf items" title that he has possessed for the last 8 years. In the Amateur category, the competition was stiff and the 27 person field entertained the crowd with a pair of playoff holes needing to be played to decide the top 3 postions. In dramatic fashion Jeff "The Chunk" Butcher defeated Mike "No-Shirt" Bishop in a one hole playoff to grab the "Not-so-Pro" title and a lovely recliner donated by Ardis Urquhart. "I said to myself I just need to control the demon within and anything is possible." said Chunk who has battled course rage issues but seems to be putting them behind him, "It was just a nice feeling to finish with all my discs intact". Bri Bri Dedamus grabbed 3rd, knocking down a 35 foot par save shot to force a 2nd extra hole where he snuck out a par and forced Bash into 4th place. Corinne played 2 very solid rounds to solidify the Ladies title, knocking the Reigning ladies Champion, "T" into 2nd place. T who has not played much frolf this season was happy with her second place finish "All the ladies played really well and have improved so much. It was great to see so many ladies out on the course. Girl Power!". Michelle grabbed 3rd and put out a challenge to Corinne that she'll play her in a match anytime, any place, just bring it. The Tournament was a huge success drawing players from Nelson, Salmo, Ymir, Kaslo and Warfield, as well as local Frolfers from Rossland. Everyone enjoyed themselves and many have already committed to the 3rd Annual Spring Fling in 2009. The RFA did a wonderful job organizing the event and a special thanks goes out to Bash, who took care of a ton of small details and made the event happen; Chunk and his financial prowess; The Tourney Director, Peach who brought the group together; and Orion, Tucker, Devin, Benner, Fry and Travis for helping out. The Rossland Frolf Association would also like to thank Retallack Cat Skiing, Ardis Urquhart and Century 21, The Ross-Vegas Frolf Shop and The Grind for donating fantastic prizes for the eventual winners and the Black Jack Nordic Centre for the facility. Thank you all so much for coming out and taking part in what has become a fantastic Kootenay Experience.

See you all next year,

Peach - The 2008 Spring Fling Tournament Director

The 2008 Spring Fling Preview

The Thin Air Frolf Club, Rossland, BC - With only a couple of days left until the tournament, the course has really come together. There have been work parties out on several occasions with Bash leading the charge, clearing away underbrush and thinning out the tighter areas. With all of this work and several new tee boxes the course is ready for the onslaught it will receive on Saturday. With the poll's almost in, the general consensus is that Devon will take the crown this year. Fry has been playing wonderful frolf with his last three rounds being -6, -6, and -6. It looks like he has sold his soul after all. But let's not count out last year's champ, El'Peacho who has been putting in his time on the practice basket and pulled off an ace on number two on Wednesday. The competition doesn't end there as there are several groups of out-of-towners that are hoping to take the trophy back to their home course torevel in our defeat. On the ladies side both T and Krissy are lacking in practice rounds but not in skill, it will be a nail biter with the women you just wait and see. With prize money for the pros, excellent swag for the not-so-pros and ladies it will be a winning situation for everyone. The RFA has done a fantastic job getting this tournament off the ground and with a little luck Ole Mamma Nature will be on our side and give us a calm, sunny day. So, come on out and enjoy the West Kootenay's best Frolf course, meet some new disc golfers and have a bitchin time. Keep your ears open on Mountain FM as Shawn Mullin is planning on doing a spot about our tournament and most likely will be there Saturday to experience the even first hand. See you all there at 9am!!!
